When running heroku run bundle exec flying-sphinx rebuild, I get the following error:
ERROR: index 'photo_core': failed to create /mnt/local/flying-sphinx/b2124d1e94a9f439b/indexes/photo_core.sps: Permission denied.
Pretty sure I've done this before, but not in a long time. I need to rebuild because I added an index and changed another. What is the problem here?

Okay. Can you update to flying-sphinx 1.0.0? Given you're on a 1.x or 2.x release of Thinking Sphinx, the appropriate gem versions for upgrading are covered here: https://gist.github.com/pat/5607525
The version of flying-sphinx you're using polls for updates to the Flying Sphinx API, and so if any of those polling requests fail, the entire task fails. With flying-sphinx 1.0.0, a single request is made and then the responses come back via a websocket connection.

gem 'flying-sphinx', '1.0.0'
but it's just timing out now:
