I have my Rails 3 application running on Heroku. I am using Thinking Sphinx search engine into my application. For making it work with Heroku, I have added a flying-sphinx gem to my gemfile as suggested in the Heroku docs.
This is what I have in my gemfile
gem 'thinking-sphinx', '2.0.13' gem 'flying-sphinx', '0.8.0'
As per the steps mentioned here https://devcenter.heroku.com/articles/flying_sphinx, After adding the flying-sphinx addon (Heroku addons:add flying_sphinx:wooden), when I run heroku run rake fs:index I get following error: Don't know how to build task 'fs:index'.
The application name is boiling-hollows-1018

Hi there
Can you upgrade flying-sphinx to 0.8.4 and see if that helps? The previous 0.8.x releases had some issues.

Can you try either the fs:index task, or the following:
heroku run flying-sphinx configure
heroku run flying-sphinx index
There isn't actually a flying-sphinx:index task, only the shorter fs version.
Cheers
Pat

This seems like an environmental issue with versions or configuration: The results of run either of the above tasks:
martin-fishers-macbook-pro~/Sites/liblex> heroku run flying-sphinx configure
Running
flying-sphinx configureattached to terminal... up, run.1bash: flying-sphinx: command not found
martin-fishers-macbook-pro~/Sites/liblex> heroku run flying-sphinx index
Running
flying-sphinx indexattached to terminal... up, run.1bash: flying-sphinx: command not found

That's a little surprising. I've seen that issue with earlier 0.8 releases, but had it working reliably with my tests on 0.8.4. What about the fs:index rake task?

gem 'pg'
gem 'thinking-sphinx', '2.0.13'
gem 'flying-sphinx', '0.8.4'
heroku run rake fs:index
Running
rake fs:indexattached to terminal... up, run.1rake aborted!
Don't know how to build task 'fs:index'

Wow, something odd is happening. Would it be possible for you to give me access to your app so I can investigate directly? (My heroku account email is [email blocked]).
Also, it's 1am here, so I'll investigate further on my morning.
Cheers

Hi Alex
I've just resolved this issue directly for Martin, but could you elaborate a bit more on your setup? What versions of rails, thinking-sphinx and flying-sphinx are you using? Are you on the Cedar or Bamboo stack?
Cheers
Pat

Thanks Alex. What's the output for these commands: `heroku run flying-sphinx configure` and `heroku run rake fs:index`?

Alex, just following up on this - maybe you missed my previous message since we posted within seconds of each other. Any word on the output of the rake task and/or configure command?
