Invalid client key error

Hello,
I am using flying-sphinx 0.8.4 with thinking-sphinx 2.0.11 in a rails application (Coursedox). Most of the application works fine, but when trying to search I get the following error:

ActionView::Template::Error (searchd error (status: 1): invalid client key '5a07599399a75788c:d1faca35f9a341ecb'):

I've looked at other similar posts in the support page, but none seem to be applicable to my situation. In a possibly related issue, about half the times I try to restart the server, I get the following error:

/usr/local/lib/ruby/1.9.1/json/common.rb:146:in `parse': 710: unexpected token at '<!DOCTYPE html> (Faraday::Error::ParsingError)

Any help would be appreciated.
